Sharing and embedding reports

You can share your reports outside of the user interface.

It is possible to share any report through a direct link that loads the report in a stand alone browser window without the full user interface. You can also embed a short block of JavaScript code into another web page to render a report in a section of the page.

Security applies to report sharing and reports will by default require the user to log in before it can be viewed. It is also possible to share a report such that it does not require any authentication to view.

Keep in mind that anyone can view a public report and make sure you don’t accidentally share reports with private information.

If you make a report public, you’ll also have to make the data public or the report will not load.

To publish data to the internet see data sharing. Make sure that you only share data that you are allowed to distribute.

To share a report with a link, click on the menu in the top right corner of the user interface and select Sharing.

Copy the link in the Report URL box. The report link can be used in any browser window and will take the user to the report without the full user interface.

Embedding a report into another web page

To embed a report within another web page, click on the … menu in the top right corner of the user interface and select Sharing.

Click on the Embedding tab. The embedding code is visible in the text box. You can put this code into your HTML on any page.

Single Sign-On and embedding

Some Single Sign-On (SAML) providers prevent logins through browser iframes and may prevent embedding code from being able to authenticate users. Talk to your vendor for more information on how to disable this restriction.

The embedding code renders the report in an iframe. You can apply CSS and styling to the embedding code to position and size the report.

Sharing reports and data

To turn off authentication and allow anyone visiting the reports to see it without a user attached to your account, click on the … menu in the top right corner of the user interface and select Sharing.

You can select two types of sharing:

  • Public sharing without indexing will make the link public but users will not be able to find it without the URL.

  • Public sharing with indexing will index the report in search engines. The report may also be included in Rational BI’s curated galleries of public reports.

  • Off - No public sharing (default)

No sharing. The report will be private and can only be accessed by logged in users based on assigned user policies.

Public sharing will give anonymous visitors on the web access to the report. Only select this option if you want the report to be accessible to unauthenticated visitors.

Do not forget to share your data as well.

If you share your report but not the data, users will see an error message. Test your report by viewing it in a different browser session or incognito window.
